Description: Dahlias have one flower per stem but the shape and size of that flower vary with variety. Typically, the sizes of the blooms are between 4 and 10 inches. There are 18 recognized different groups of Dahlias with many different brilliant colors available in all the groups. Dahlias typically last about 7 to 10 days and are available year round from international markets and from April through November in domestic markets.

How to care for your dahlias:

• Immediately upon recieving the dahlias, remove any packaging material.
• Remove any loose foliage or any that would lie beneath the water line so that the water will not be contaminated.
• Off of each stem, cut off at least an inch at a diagonal cut with a sharp knife or pruners.
• Dahlias are sensitive to ethylene and therefore should be treated with an ethylene inhibitor if they have not been treated by one already.
• Immediately after cutting the stems, place them in a clean container filled with a flower food and warm water solution.
• Keep the flowers in the cooler before selling them.
• Every other day clean the container and replace the solution as well as cut the stems of each dahlia in a similar style.
