Description: Hyacinths are an ancient flower, having their roots in Greek and Roman tradition. Today, there are over 100 varieties but only about 25 are popular with florists. They are available in many colors including blue, purple, lavender, white, yellow, pink, orange, and others. They are available from November through April but can sometimes be found at other times as well.

How to care for your hyacinths:

• Remove any packaging material immediately.
• Only about 1/4 of an inch needs be cut but be sure to cut each stem with a sharp knife or pruner at a diagonal.
• Remove any loose foliage that may have come loose during shipping and remove any leaves covering the blooms.
• Rinse the stems to remove any residue.
• Place the stems in a hydrating solution.
• Keep the stems in their sleeves or you can wrap them in paper to ensure they grow straight.
• Place the stems in a clean container filled with a flower food and warm water solution. Be sure to isolate them for their sap is poisonous to other flowers.
• Allow at least 24 hours of room temperature drinking before trying to sell the flowers or refrigerating them.
• Clean the container, change the solution, and recut the stems every other day.
